Wilmington Sharks News Release

Two rain delays rolled through the Shark Tank on Thursday night, and the Sharks (8-12) ended their four game home stand with an abbreviated, 6-3 loss to the Florence RedWolves (12-9) after the second rain delay ended the game early in the top of the seventh.

The first delay came between the top and bottom of the second inning and lasted close to an hour before the tarps were pulled off and play was resumed. With the second delay, the sky opened up and buckets fell onto the field and the tarps were only able to be placed on the mound and plate areas, leaving puddles around the infield.

Florence was in the lead throughout the shortened contest, as they scored two in the top of the first and added a third run in the top of the second before the first delay.

After the first delay, Florence tacked on a third run in the top of the third inning and another in the fifth to take a 5-0 lead.

The Sharks only offensive noise of the night came in the bottom of the fifth, when Daniel Aldrich blasted a two-run homer to deep right-center field that cut the Wilmington deficit to 5-2.

The two teams traded runs in the sixth to bring the game to what ended up as its final score after the second band of rain came rolling through.

For the Sharks, Kenny Bryant and K.J. McAllister both tallied 2-for-3 hitting lines, while McAllister also picked up an RBI that drove in the Sharks final run of the night.

Josh Miller had a 3-for-4 night with two RBIs to lead the RedWolves.

Despite both only pitching to a handful of batters and neither coming back after the first rain delay, both starters factored in to the decisions, with the Sharks' Chris O'Grady falling to 1-1 while Willi Martin improved to 1-1 for Florence.

The Sharks hit the road for four straight before returning to the Shark Tank on Tuesday, June 28 as they host Columbia in a Time Warner Cable Two ‚¬Ëœfer Tuesday matchup.
