Thomasville Out Hits Asheboro For Win

ASHEBORO, N.C. - Thomasville gave up a four-run lead but managed to rally back and pick up their first win of the season over the Asheboro Copperheads 10-7 on Thursday night at McCrary Park.

Trailing by a 5-4 score in the sixth inning, Thomasville (11-11) scored three times to take the lead on a Ryan Kinsella two-run single to give the HiToms a lead 7-5 lead that they wouldn't relinquish.

The HiToms scored the first four runs of the game to take a commanding lead as Zack Briggs blasted a two-run home run in the third inning to make it 4-0 Tommies.

However, Asheboro (14-9) came storming back with four runs in the fourth inning off Tim Brechbuehler to knot the score. In the frame, the Copperheads banged a pair of home runs, but the biggest blow was the three-run, game tying blast from Ryan Bostian.

Brechbuehler was chased from the game in the fifth after the first two hitters reached. Matt Dillon entered and gave up a wild pitch to give the Copperheads a 5-4 lead after five. But, Matt Dillon (W, 2-0) came on to pitch three and two thirds innings without allowing a run; that allowed the HiToms to expand their lead as they held on for the 9-5 win.

In the ninth inning, Asheboro brought the tying run to the plate as Johnny Hoffman (S, 2) gave up a pair of solo home runs to Hunter Ridge and Trey Holmes and an RBI double to Sam Picchiotti made it 10-8. But, the HiToms prevailed 10-8

During the win for the Tommies, they banged out a season high 17 hits meanwhile the Copperheads have now lost five of their last six games.

Thomasville is back in action tomorrow when they travel to Martinsville to battle the Mustangs from Hooker Field at 7:05. The Tommies return home on Saturday night at 7:00 against Martinsville.
