Lexington County Blowfish News Release
The Morehead City Marlins scored four runs in the seventh inning to blow open a 9-5 victory over the Columbia Blowfish Thursday night. The Blowfish needed three pitchers to get through the half inning.
The Marlins (11-10) scored first when Grant Clyde doubled home a run in the second off Blowfish (6-15) starter Pat Ludwig (0-3). Ludwig had another decent outing, going six innings while allowing two earned runs on eight hits while striking out seven.
Brison Celek responded in the bottom of the inning with a solo home run to tie things up.
That score held until the fifth inning when a single by Jake Carlson and error by Tyler Jackson led to two runs coming across. Carlson and Austin Wulf provided back-to-back RBI singles in the sixth to add to the lead.
Jackson made up for his defensive blunder in the bottom of the sixth when he crushed a fastball for an opposite field two-run home run.
Blowfish pitchers Hayden Jordan, Chad Hodges and Alex Brooks were all called upon in the seventh to try and slow the Marlins. Carlson again did damage with a two-run single and Geoff Perrott provided an RBI single as well to help the cause.
Darlo Santangelo (2-2) went seven innings to pick up the win in his start for Morehead City. He allowed four runs on five hits while striking out seven. Kyle Wigmore pitched the final four outs to pick up his first save of the season.
Celek led off the bottom of the seventh with a double and was brought home by two straight ground outs. Two errors by Marlins infielders allowed another run to score in the eighth. Then the Blowfish were able to get the tying run to the on deck circle in the ninth but didn't score another run.
These two clubs face off again tomorrow night in the series finale. They will also play a two-game set in Morehead City next week.
