Titans Week in Review

December 5, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Trenton Titans News Release

For the second time this month, The Trenton Titans played three games in a calendar week. But unlike back on November 9th - when they played against Reading on three consecutive nights - the Titans got to face somebody else in the Atlantic Division, playing Elmira twice and Wheeling for the first time this year.

The first two games were nail-biting affairs, with Trenton dropping the road game in Wheeling, then taking a wild contest at home over Elmira. The finale saw the Titans fight back from a huge deficit, but never seem to get on track in falling to the Jackals on Sunday.

Wednesday November 28: Trenton-2, WHEELING-3

It was a nip-and-tuck affair in this first-time meeting this season between the two Atlantic Division foes. After allowing a late first period goal, Trenton came back with two in the second to take a 2-1 lead.

Connor Goggin grabbed his first ECHL goal with a blast following a sprint up the slot and a perfect feed from Ryan Hayes at 2:39. Andy Bohmbach followed at 16:42 with his eighth of the year from Hayes and Stephen Schultz.

Scott Wedgewood was brilliant facing 27 shots through two periods, however he couldn't stop the trying marker 13 seconds after Bohmbach gave the Titans the lead.

Wheeling got the game-winner early in the third, then hung on for dear life as Jacob Drewiske hit the left post twice in the final six seconds in getting the win.

Saturday December 1: Elmira-6, TRENTON-7 (SO)

With four goalies sporting sub-3.00 GAA and a history of tight one-goal games, this had all the makings of a defensive battle. The only thing that held was the one goal finale.

The Sun National Bank Center turned into the O.K. Corral as both sides bombarded the other for three goals apiece in the first.

Trenton grabbed the lead for the third time on the night after Marcel Noebels ripped his third goal of the night from the left circle at 9:52 of the second, and Bohmbach put home his ninth just six minutes later.

Elmira came back in the third with two goals sandwiching a Justin Taylor score to send the game through overtime knotted at 6-6.

Wedgewood - who started the second period in relief of Niko Hovinen - stopped 19 shots. More importantly, he was perfect in the shootout after stopping Jack Downing in the fifth round. Schultz, who extended his scoring streak to six in the game, had the only goal in the third round to help give the Titans their first SOW since March 25, 2011, against Kalamazoo (0-7 since then).

Sunday December 2: ELMIRA-6, Trenton-2

Earlier in a two-game set in Elmira, Trenton won the first game by one, then lost the next night by four. It happened again, but this time in Trenton as the Jackals jumped all over the Titans with three goals in the first, including two 4-on-3 PPG.

Noebels grabbed his sixth of the year to cut the deficit to 3-1 early in the second, then Ian Slater got it back to two at 4-2, on his second goal of the year with 30 seconds left in the period.

But any Titans momentum ended at the horn, as Elmira held off a rally to start the third, then grabbed two goals in the final 11 minutes of the game to eventually put it away.

Relief Effort In The Wake Of Hurricane Sandy: The Titans are grateful to the members of Titans Nation who provided - and continue to offer - relief supplies for those in need following the devastation left behind in Hurricane Sandy's wake.

The Titans continue the help our neighbors in need and will keep delivering donations as they come in. Trenton would like to thank its friends at Justin's Rentals in Trenton, for supplying the transportation needed to deliver those donations. No More Shootout Shutout: With the win on Saturday, Trenton ended an 0-for-7 streak in shootouts, going back to last year, when they were the only team in the ECHL not to win in a shootout (0-6). The last SOW for the Titans was a 3-2 win at home over Kalamazoo on March 25, 2011.

Four-Score And Nine Games Ago: Noebels' four-point effort on Saturday is the highest total posted in any Titans game this year and ended a nine game scoring drought for the rookie, after beginning the season with an eight game point streak.

Take Me To Your Leader: Andy Bohmbach currently leads the team in Goals (9), Assists (10), scoring (19) and SHG (2)

Still Dangerous When They Are Down: Trenton still leads the ECHL in both SHG (6) and Road SHG (5). The Titans had 7 SHG (3 road) all of last season.

Streaker Caught: Stephen Schultz had a six-game point scoring streak come to an end in the Sunday game against Elmira. He had two goals and five assists during that stretch.

Midnight Train To Georgia: After the second game against South Carolina this Saturday night, Trenton will travel overnight to face Gwinnett in Georgia on Sunday afternoon at 4:05 pm.

Even Steven With The Palmetto State So Far: The Titans have already played one team from South Carolina, splitting a pair of games at home with Greenville.

No-Fun-Vember: After going 5-2 during October, Trenton slipped in November, going 2-7-0-1, including 0-4-0-1 against division rival Reading to start the month.

Consistent Splits-Ville: Trenton has played Elmira on back-to-back nights twice - once each at home and on the road. In each series the Titans won the first game by a goal, then lost the back end by four goals!
