Brust Named the MeiGray Group ECHL Alumnus of the Month

PRINCETON, N.J.- Former ECHL and current Abbotsford Heat goaltender Barry Brust is The MeiGray Group ECHL Alumnus of the Month for November.
The leading distributor of game- worn hockey jerseys and "Official Game-Worn Jersey Source of the ECHL," MeiGray sold more than 500 game-worn jerseys in 2011-12 and has sold more than 6,500 since it became "The Official Game-Worn Jersey Source of the ECHL" in 2002-03.
The 29-year-old broke a nearly 55-year American Hockey League record with a 268:17 shutout streak during November as he went 5-0-0 with three shutouts, a 0.59 goals-against average and a save percentage of .976. He opened the month with three consecutive shutouts, making 22 saves in a 3-0 win against Toronto on Nov. 1, stopping 29 shots in a 3-0 victory over Lake Erie on Nov. 13 and making 29 saves in a 2-0 win against Lake Erie on Nov. 14.
Overall this season, Brust is 6-1-0 and leads the American Hockey League with a 0.99 goals-against average and a .958 save percentage.
A native of Swan River, Manitoba, Brust played with Reading from 2004-06 and returned to the ECHL with Florida in 2009-10. Brust appeared in 64 career ECHL games, posting a 39-15-6 record with four shutouts and is the league's all-time leader with a 2.13 goals-against average in 64 career games.
Selected in the third round (73rd overall) by the Minnesota Wild in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Brust has 197 career AHL games with Abbotsford, Binghamton, Houston and Manchester with an overall record of 102-71-9 with 19 shutouts, a 2.43 goals-against average and a save percentage of .920. He also has seen action in 11 career National Hockey League games with Los Angeles.
There have been 490 players who have played in the NHL after playing in the ECHL including 23 who made their debut in 2011-12. The ECHL has had 298 players reach the NHL since 2002-03 when it changed its focus to become the primary developmental league for the NHL and the AHL. The ECHL had 97 players reach the NHL in its first 10 seasons and 215 in the first 15 years. There have been 234 ECHL players who have played their first game in the last seven seasons for an average of more than 33 per year.
