Titans Week in Review

October 15, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Trenton Titans News Release

The Trenton Titans couldn't have played the weekend much better, sweeping their two games to join Elmira atop the Atlantic Division. Before its largest home-opening crowd since prior to the 2006-07 season, Trenton turned in a complete performance to drop Greenville on Friday, 3-1, after losing both meetings last year. Power play goals by Steven Schultz and Jason Akeson on the Titans first two opportunities provided all Niko Hovinen would need, as he stopped 31 shots to get the win.

Jacob Drewiske jump-started the Titans in their 6-2 win at Reading the following night, scoring just 31 seconds into the contest. His short-handed goal 1:33 into the second kept the offense rolling and provided plenty of cushion for Scott Wedgewood, who also had 31 saves to secure the victory.

(Finally) Some Home Cooking: The Titans/Devils have opened the season at home in six of the last seven seasons. But for the first time since 10/19/17, Trenton picked up the win in its season opener, home or away.

First Time's The Charm: Both Hovinen and Wedgewood picked up their first career win in their first career professional game.

Killing Time: After finishing last season 19th in the ECHL on the PK (77%), the Titans started 2012-13 by going a perfect 12-12 on the man-disadvantage, before a Reading goal midway through the third ended the streak.

Eight Is Enough: With the win over Reading, Trenton ended an 8-game regular season losing streak to the Royals.

Sharing The Wealth: Twelve different Titans recorded a point in the victory at Reading and 14 have secured a point this season.
