Elmira Jackals News Release
Elmira, N.Y. - J.S. Berube netted his first-career hat trick as the Trenton Titans defeated the Elmira Jackals at First Arena on Saturday night, 8-1.
The Jackals wasted no time in taking the early lead, as Corey Cowick fired in a centering feed from Dustin Gazley just 53 seconds into the contest, giving the Jackals a 1-0 advantage.
Trenton would storm back to take a lead into the first intermission. Eric Baier drove a puck toward the net that was tipped in by J.S. Berube's stick from in front of the goal, tying the game, 1-1, at 12:43.
Dustin Cameron sent in a feed from Steve Silva from the right circle past Brian Stewart's glove side with the Titans short handed at 19:00, making it 2-1.
The Titans exploded in the second period, leaving the Jackals in their wake. Off an Elmira turnover behind its net, Cameron finished off a centering feed from Adam Presizniuk at 7:33 to extend the lead to 3-1. Berube struck twice quickly thereafter, knocking in a rebound off a great save by Stewart on Andy Bohmbach to make it 4-1 at 9:09, and then sending in a loose puck at 9:47 for his hat-trick goal to give Trenton a 5-1 lead. After the fifth goal, Jackals coach Pat Bingham pulled Stewart after 29:47 of game time. Timo Pielmeier came in for Stewart, allowing two goals to close out the period, as Eric Baier fired in a shot from the high slot on Trenton's second power play at 17:35 and Rob Bordson put home a wrist shot on the doorstep at 18:00, making it 7-1 after two.
Bohmbach sent in a loose puck at 4:03 of the third period with the Titans on the power play, closing out the scoring at 8-1.
Stewart (17-10-1-0) set aside 22 saves on 27 shots in the loss. Phillips (6-9-0-1) stopped 25 shots for his third win against Elmira this season.
