Berube, Bohmbach, Phillips Fuel Titans' Rout of Jackals
February 18, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Trenton Titans News Release
ELMIRA, N.Y. - The Trenton Titans (17-26-3-5-42), in what was their most dominating performance of the season, routed the Elmira Jackals (29-19-2-2-62) and 3,398 in attendance at First Arena, 8-1, Saturday night.
It was the Titans' second straight win over the Jackals and was fueled by J.S. Berube, who scored a hat trick after joining the Titans from Albany (AHL), Andy Bohmbach, who had a pair of goals and three assists, and Brad Phillips, who stopped 25-of-26 shots, allowing only a goal to the Jackals Corey Cowick 53 seconds into the game..
Perhaps it was Berube's grit that made a huge difference for the Titans, who matched their best effort in both goals scored and goals allowed for the season. Perhaps it was Vinny Geonnetti dropping the gloves with Elmira's John Kurtz early in the game. Something fueled the Titans.
After Cowick's tally, Berube tied the game with 7:17 remaining in the first period, after an earlier Titans goal was disallowed.
Dustin Cameron then put the Titans ahead, 2-1, with a short-handed goal with a minute left in the first period, completing a bang-bang play initiated by Steve Silva.
The Titans then exploded for five goals in the final 12:27 of the second period to take a 7-1 lead and knock Jackals starting goalie Brian Stewart from the game. Cameron, who has been red-hot, nailed his 17th, while Berube scored his fourth and fifth with the Titans. Eric Baier got his fourth and Rob Bordson his 17th of the season,
Bohmbach closed the scoring with his 18th, on the power play, with 15:57 remaining.
The Titans aim for two straight when they host Wheeling at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Sun National Bank Center on Autism and Special Needs Day.
