March 17, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Trenton Titans News Release
Trenton, NJ - The Titans, proud ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, fell to the Elmira Jackals, 6-3, on home ice Sunday afternoon.
The Titans (27-30-4-4, 62 pointts) struck first when Andrew Johnston buried a loose puck out of a scramble in front of Maxime Clermont (18-12-3-2, 36 saves). Alexander Carrier and Kory Nagy earned assists on Johnston's 3 rd of the year.
Elmira (35-23-3-4, 77 points) responded quickly with two goals from Andrew Rowe in a span of 2:31. Rowe first beat Cal Heeter (3-3, 27 saves) on a short-handed breakaway, and then swatted home a bouncing puck from an odd angle to put the Jackals up 2-1 at the end of the first period.
Shane Harper pulled the Titans even just 10 seconds into the second stanza, deflecting a shot from Eric Baier for his fourth goal of the season. Andy Bombach earned the secondary assist on the play to extend his point streak to five games (1G, 6A). The Jackals again had an answer, this time from Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel at 1:33 of the second. A goal from Stephen Schultz late in the period sent the teams back to the locker rooms tied at three. The 4-on-3 power play marker was Schultz's 27 th (league-leading 18th P P) of the year, with assists going to Blake Kessel and Johnston.
The Jackals regained the lead 5:15 into the third with a 4-on-3 power play goal of their own, thanks to Jordan Pietrus. Pietrus added an even strength goal at 14:25 to push the lead to two, and Rob Bellamy added an empty netter to complete the scoring.
The Titans were 1-for-6 on the power play, and limited the Jackals to one goal on four extra-man opportunities. Trenton is now 5-6-1-1 this season against the Jackals, with three more meetings in Elmira in the final seven games of the season.
The Titans will head to Elmira Wednesday to complete the home-and-home against the Jackals at 7:05 pm. They will then return home for a weekend series against the Wheeling Nailers, Friday and Saturday at 7:05 pm. Saturday's contest will be the final home game of the season for the Titans, and will also be Fan Appreciation Night. As always, those games can be heard on the flagship station 107.7 FM The Bronc, or online at 1077thebronc.com with the voice of the Titans, "The Bronc" Daryle Dobos.
