Elmira Jackals News Release

TRENTON, N.J. - March 17, 2013 - The Elmira Jackals celebrated Saint Patrick's Day with a 6-3 win over the Trenton Titans at the Sun National Bank Center on Sunday evening. The win improved Elmira's record to 35-23-7 on the season.

After falling behind midway through the first, Andrew Rowe woke the Jackals' offense up in a big way with a pair of goals to propel Elmira to an early lead. Andrew Johnston of Trenton struck first off of a net-front scramble at 11:11 of the opening stanza. Trenton looked to be in good position with its first power play of the game shortly after that, but Rowe's steal from Blake Kessel at the point changed the perspective quickly. Rowe took off on a breakaway and netted his 25th of the season to tie the score exactly one minute after Trenton had taken the lead. Rowe then chipped home a pass from Matt Carter at 14:42 to lift the Jackals in front for the first time. Maxime Clermont stopped 16 of 17 which left Elmira in front for the start of the second.

Trenton's Shane Harper made quick work of tying the game with a deflected point shot just 10 seconds into the middle stanza. But like a heavyweight boxer, the Jackals answered with the counter punch. Working from the right wing circle, winger Matt Tassone spied an open Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel in the left faceoff circle. After taking the pass, Dieude-Fauvle rifled a wrist shot over goalie Cal Heeter's glove for a 3-2 Jackals lead. The goal came just 1:23 after Trenton had tied it. After a flurry of penalties late in the period, Trenton's Stephen Schultz capitalized with a 4-on-3 power play goal to tie the game heading into the third.

Elmira locked down defensively and kept Trenton off the board with just nine shots in the final frame. Meanwhile, at the other end of the ice, Jordan Pietrus was just getting warm. The second-year Jackal netted a power play goal of his own 5:15 into the third to restore Elmira's lead at 4-3. Then, on an odd-man rush, Rob Bellamy fed Pietrus between the circles for a one-timer that beat Heeter five hole for Elmira's first two goal lead of the night. Trenton went ultra-aggressive and pulled Heeter for an extra attacker with two minutes to play, but Bellamy hit the empty net to salt the win away for the Jackals.

Clermont picked up his 18th win of the season on the strength of 36 saves. The Jackals went 1-for-4 on the power play and 5-for-6 on the penalty kill.
