CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The TinCaps came within inches of blowing Friday's game at Cedar Rapids, but got a pair of home runs in the 11th inning to top the Cedar Rapids Kernels, 6-4, Friday at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Nate Freiman had three hits including a home run.

LHP Mike Watt held the Kernels scoreless through five innings. He scattered six hits and two walks while striking out two, but did not figure in the decision.

Fort Wayne got on the board with a two-out rally in the fourth inning. Jeudy Valdez reached on an error, went to third on Jason Hagerty's single, then scored on Freiman's single.

In the sixth, Freiman again came to the plate with two outs, this time hammering a three-run homer to left-center to push the lead to 4-0.

Freiman came to the plate again in the eighth and pounded a two-out double to the gap in leftcenter.

The Kernels didn't score until the seventh, when Casey Haerther ripped a leadoff home run to make it a 4-1 game.

In the ninth, Cedar Rapids rallied to tie the game. Jon Karcich and Jean Segura hit back-to-back singles with one out. A fly ball to left was dropped for an error to load the bases, then Jeremy Cruz yanked a two-run double into the left-field corner to make it 4-3. The TinCaps intentionally walked Haerther to reload the bases, then Michael Wing grounded a single to right, scoring Matt Long with the tying run, but Wande Olabisi fired a one-hop throw to the plate to nail Cruz and keep the game going. A groundout ended the rally.

In the top of the 11th, Hagerty crushed a leadoff home run to right to put the TinCaps ahead, 5-4. Two batters later, Edinson Rincon pummeled a solo blast to left for an insurance run.

TinCaps RHP Jon Berger (2-0) worked a scoreless inning to notch the win; Cedar Rapids RHP Mike Kenney (2-2) was the losing pitcher. RHP Miles Mikolas picked up his first career save.

Fort Wayne upped its record to 11-10 in the half, 47-44 for the season. Cedar Rapids fell to 11-9 in the second half, 54-34 for the year.

The TinCaps head to Davenport, Iowa, to open a three-game series against the Quad Cities River Bandits (Class-A St. Louis Cardinals) Saturday at 7:00 p.m. ET.
