SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Thanks to a nine-run eruption in the top of the 10th inning, the TinCaps beat the South Bend Cubs, 10-2, on Sunday afternoon at Four Winds Field. Fort Wayne won four of six games in the series. The 'Caps are now 4-0-2 over their last six sets.

TinCaps (2-1, 34-35) starting pitcher Jairo Iriarte (No. 11 Padres prospect) struck out 10 batters without a walk over six innings of one-run ball. The 21-year-old right-hander from Venezuela allowed just three hits and a hit batter. Mixing a mid-to-high-90s fastball with a slider and changeup, he became the first TinCap to record double-digit strikeouts in a game this year.

Three of South Bend's baserunners came in the second inning, as third baseman Luis Verdugo delivered a two-out RBI single.

Joshua Mears (No. 14 Padres prospect) tied the game, 1-1, in the top of the seventh inning as he crushed a 408-foot home run to left field.

After Iriarte, Henry Henry worked a perfect seventh inning. Keegan Collett came on and did the same in the eighth. At that point, Fort Wayne pitching had retired 15 consecutive batters.

The game remained tied into the 10th. In the extra frame, first baseman Carlos Luis gave the 'Caps the lead with a bases-loaded, RBI single. From there, Lucas Dunn, Justin Farmer, and Jakob Marsee (No. 22 Padres prospect) each walked with the bases full, expanding their lead to 5-1. Mears put the game away with a grand slam to left field -- his third homer in the last three games and his eighth of the season.

For good measure, designated hitter Nathan Martorella (No. 23 Padres prospect) added a solo shot to left-center field. With 12 home runs, Martorella is tied for the Midwest League lead. His 49 RBIs on the season stand alone at the top. Martorella finished with a game-high three hits as he raised his season OPS to .851, fifth highest in the MWL.
