Loons Drop Rain-Shortened Series Finale 2-1

Comstock Park, Mich. - The Great Lakes Loons' (46-21) opportunity to tie up the game in the top of the sixth was cut short by inclement weather, as rain descended on LMCU Ballpark with the score 2-1 West Michigan Whitecaps (34-34) the final score on a dreary Sunday. The Loons won the series four games to two.

The game went to a delay and eventually ruled official with Dalton Rushing aboard on first base and a 3-2 count to Alex Freeland with the score 2-1 Whitecaps with no outs in the top of the sixth.

West Michigan scored two runs off three hits in the second inning. A leadoff double by Izaac Pacheco and then Austin Murr grounded one into right field to score the game's first run. Murr proceeded to steal second base. The Whitecaps' 18th stolen base of the season, the fewest in Minor League Baseball. Murr was plated by a bloop single to right field off the bat of Luis Garcia.

Justin Wrobleski held the Whitecaps to just two hits through the next two innings. The left-hander was one out away from a fourth quality start in a row, completing 4.2 innings.

The Loons' lone run came in the third inning. A 326-foot solo home run from Griffin Lockwood-Powell to left field. His seventh of the season, his second of the series.

Great Lakes offensively stranded four on base. In the bottom of the second, Damon Keith singled and was followed by a five-pitch walk from Griffin Lockwood-Powell. A Chris Alleyne sacrifice bunt moved both runners over. A walk loaded the bases, but a fielder's choice terminated the threat.

In the top of the fifth inning, Jake Vogel reached on a single, the potential tying run. The 21-year-old now has a five-game hit streak. A 6-4-3 double play turned by the Whitecaps defense squelched the chance. West Michigan's Garrett Burhenn allowed one run over four innings.

After two days off, the Great Lakes Loons begin a stretch of 12 games in 12 days. Wednesday, June 28th, starts a six-game series at Dow Diamond with the Lansing Lugnuts. The first pitch on Wednesday is at 7:05 p.m.
