Beloit Sky Carp News Release
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Beloit Sky Carp dropped a pair of games to Cedar Rapids Sunday afternoon, losing 10-6 in the completion of a suspended game, then dropping an 8-3 decision in the seven-inning nightcap.
The Sky Carp and Kernels picked up in the third inning of a 1-1 game and the Kernels immediately jumped all over Beloit's Cade Gibson, tagging the righthander for five rus in just 2-3 of an inning.
Beloit would battle back, however. The Sky Carp scored single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings before plating a pair of runs in the seventh inning on an Osiris Johnson two-run homer.
Cedar Rapids put the game away with three runs in the bottom of the eighth. Prior to that, Yeuris Jimenez threw 2 1-3 innings of scoreless, hitless relief for Beloit.
There were several standout offensive performances by the Sky Carp, who finished the game with 12 hits. Jacob Berry, Yiddi Cappe, Jorge Caballero, Ynmanol Marinez and Johnson each finished with two hits.
In the nightcap, the Kernels broke a scoreless tie with four runs in the third inning, then added two more in the fourth and two more in the sixth.
Beloit scored its only three runs in the top of the seventh inning when Zach Zubia continued his recent hot streak with a two-run homer, and Zach Thompson followed that with a solo shot to account for the final score.
Josh White fell to 0-5 on the season after allowing four runs (two earned) in 2 1-3 frames.
The Sky Carp will now take the next two days off before facing South Bend on Wednesday, June 28. We will have another One Price Wednesday, where fans can get into the ballpark for $18 that includes a game ticket, hot dog, chips and a drink.
The Beloit Sky Carp are the High-A Affiliate of the Miami Marlins and play their games at ABC Supply Stadium -- the heart of the Riverbend District.
