Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - TinCaps second baseman Lucas Dunn ripped an RBI triple in the fifth inning, starting pitcher Bodi Rascon tossed five shutout frames, and Fort Wayne blanked the Lansing Lugnuts (Oakland A's affiliate) again Saturday night, 4-0, at Parkview Field before a sellout crowd of 7,323. The 'Caps are on a season-long four game winning streak and have won seven of their last eight.
TinCaps pitching has now recorded 27 consecutive shutout innings dating back to Thursday. It's also the first time the TinCaps have recorded back-to-back shutout wins since July 3-4, 2018 against the Great Lakes Loons (Los Angeles Dodgers affiliate).
Rascon allowed just three hits during his start. Reliever Nick Twaits also worked three scoreless innings in relief, while Aaron Holiday worked a clean ninth.
Dunn's opposite-field triple came with no one out in the bottom of the fifth and scored center fielder Jakob Marsee (No. 22 Padres prospect) after a leadoff walk to break a scoreless tie. Left fielder Justin Farmer followed that up with a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.
Fort Wayne right fielder Joshua Mears (No. 14 Padres prospect), who hit a walk-off double Friday night, extended his RBI streak to six games with a sacrifice fly in the eighth. First baseman Nathan Martorella (No. 23 Padres prospect) added more insurance with a two-out single to score shortstop Jackson Merrill (No. 1 Padres prospect).
The TinCaps are in the midst of a 12-game homestand, which continues through next week.
On Sunday, Parkview Field will host Johnny's Birthday Bash. Mascot Johnny TinCap is celebrating his birthday by encouraging fans to donate canned or non-perishable food items to support the Community Harvest Food Bank. Fans who donate at least three items will receive a voucher for a free souvenir soft drink.
Fans can also buy a game ticket with access to a special all-you-can-eat picnic for just $25 through this link.
