Lansing Lugnuts News Release
FORT WAYNE, IN - The Eastern Division-leading Fort Wayne TinCaps (39-19, 71-55) won their sixteenth consecutive home game, handing the Lansing Lugnuts (26-31, 68-59) a three-game sweep with a 3-2 defeat on Wednesday night at Parkview Field.
Lansing scored only seven runs during the series.
Trae Santos homered for a second straight game for the TinCaps, who scored three runs in the first two innings against Lugnuts starter Tom Robson (Loss, 0-2).
Fort Wayne starter Chris Huffman (Win, 9-6) pitched six innings, striking out four and allowing only an Austin Davis second-inning RBI single.
The Lugs carved the deficit down to one on a Ryan McBroom run-scoring single off reliever T.J. Weir in the eighth, the team-leading 83rd RBI of the season for the Midwest League's Most Valuable Player.
But Colby Blueberg (Save, 20) mowed through the Lugs in a perfect ninth, striking out Davis and Christian Vazquez on six pitches to end the game.
In the loss, Lansing received three scoreless frames from reliever Colton Turner, who struck out four TinCaps, and a scoreless eighth inning from Phil Kish.
David Harris collected two hits for the second straight game for the Lugs, raising his batting average to .280. Both Austin Davis and catcher Michael De La Cruz added 2-for-4 performances.
From facing the Eastern Division's first-place team, the Lugnuts next travel to play the second-place West Michigan Whitecaps in a three-game series from Thursday through Saturday. Lugs right-hander Chase Mallard (6-5, 5.07) starts against Whitecaps right-hander A.J. Ladwig (10-9, 3.90) on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. at Fifth Third Ballpark.
The Lansing Lugnuts return home on Sunday, August 30th, a 4:05 p.m. Kids Day presented by Delta Dental - Play Catch on the Field before the game, and Kids Run the Bases afterward! For more information, call (517) 485-4500 or visit lansinglugnuts.com.
