
Ethan Mildren promoted to Fort Myers

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announce that RHP Ethan Mildren has been promoted to Fort Myers (FSL) and LHP Sam Clay will rejoin the Kernels from Elizabethton (APPY). Brad Steil, Director of Minor League Operations for the Twins, announced the move.
Mildren joined the Kernels on June 17th and pitched in 12 games (seven starts) for the Kernels. In 48.2 IP, he allowed 50 hits and 20 runs (19 earned) with 17 walks and 31 strikeouts. He posted a 4-1 record and 3.51 ERA. The Twins selected Mildren in the 12th round of the 2013 First Year Player Draft out of the University of Pittsburgh.
Clay was assigned to Extended Spring Training on May 18th and has made 10 appearances (seven starts) for Elizabethton posting a 1-3 record and 3.00 ERA. In 39 IP, he allowed 36 hits and 17 runs (13 earned) with 12 walks and 44 strikeouts. Clay made nine relief appearances for the Kernels this season, posting an 0-2 record and 4.50 ERA. In 18 IP, he allowed 15 hits and nine runs (all earned) with 18 walks and 19 strikeouts. He was selected by the Twins in the 4th round of the 2014 First Year Player Draft out of Georgia Tech
Clay is active and available for tonight's 6:35 PM vs. Peoria. With today's transactions, the Kernels roster is at the Midwest League maximum of 25 active players, with nine players currently on the DL.
The Kernels continue a six game home stand tonight at 6:35 PM against the Peoria Chiefs. Be here when the gates open at 5:30 PM as Western Fraternal Life is passing out $500 to fans age 18 and older at the main gates with the top prize a $100 bill.
