Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Bowling Green Hot Rods used a seven-run eighth inning en route to a 13-2 drubbing of the Fort Wayne TinCaps on Saturday night at Parkview Field. The 13 runs surrendered by the TinCaps are the most allowed in a single game this season, and the four TinCaps errors tied a season high.
Fort Wayne (23-26) worked to a 2-0 lead in the second inning on back-to-back home runs from Lee Orr and Yeison Asencio. Orr "Ës fifth home run in 12 games ties him for the team lead in longballs with catcher Austin Hedges. Hedges singled following the two homers, but the TinCaps would not pick up another hit the entire night.
Bowling Green (26-23) scored two runs, aided by three Fort Wayne errors, in the fifth inning. Starter Colin Rea issued a two-out walk to Taylor Motter, who then stole second base. Joel Caminero followed by grounding a ball back to Rea, whose throw to first sailed high of Orr at first, and Motter came around to score while Caminero ended up at second base. Rea was charged with an error on the play, and Caminero was credited with a single. The next batter, Juniel Querecuto, hit a ground ball to shortstop. Jace Peterson dropped the ball, leaving Querecuto safe at first base. Meanwhile, Caminero raced around third and charged for home. Peterson's throw to the plate went low and Caminero scored. Peterson was charged with both a fielding error and a throwing error on the play.
The game remained tied at two into the eighth inning, when Bowling Green unloaded seven runs and sent 11 men to the plate. The TinCaps used three pitchers, Luis De La Cruz, Robert Eisenbach, and Yordany Ramirez in that frame. No reliever escaped the night unscathed, with each giving up at least two runs, and Eisenbach being charged with five earned runs.
Ramirez gave up a two-run home run in the ninth to Todd Glaesmann, making the score 13-2 in favor of Bowling Green. De La Cruz (2-4) was tagged with the loss, while Jason McEachern (2-1) got the win for the Hot Rods with three innings of scoreless relief.
Game two of the four-game series is scheduled for Sunday night at Parkview Field. The pitching matchup pits Fort Wayne's Matt Wisler against Bowling Green's Roberto Gomez. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
