Lavisky's Two out Heroics Fuel Captains Win

Lake County Captains News Release


(LANSING, MI) - Alex Lavisky drilled his third homerun of the season to left field in the top of the eight inning and put the Captains in front 4-3. Lake County won the game by that score. Lavisky had all four RBI's on the night. To go along with his homer he also added two singles on Saturday. Lake County has now won three straight ballgames.

In the first inning the Captains scored two times. Lake County had two outs and the bases were loaded for Alex Lavisky. Lavisky broke his bat but deposited a single into left field and two runs came across home plate it was 2-0 Captains going to the bottom of the first frame.

In the bottom half of the first inning, Lansing got on the scoreboard. Carlos Perez doubled to left field and came home to score on a Chris Hawkins single and the Lake County lead was cut in half at 2-1. Lansing tied the game in the bottom of the third inning. Carlos Perez walked and was doubled to third by Andy Burns. Perez scored on an RBI ground out by K.C. Hobson. The score was 2-2 heading to the fourth inning.

Lansing took the lead in the fifth inning. Chris Hawkins hit a two out double. That chased the Captains starter Cody Anderson from the ballgame after four and two thirds innings. And Burns tripled to right center off of Francisco Valera and it made it a 3-2 Lugnuts lead. The run was charged to Anderson.

RHP Aaron Sanchez (5-0) only lasted three innings and didn't factor in the decision. Sanchez allowed two hits two un-earned runs and allowed two walks and three strikeouts. Justin Nicolino pitched four innings for Lansing and also didn't factor in the decision. Nicolino struck out five. Brandon Berl (2-2) took the loss. He gave up the Lavisky homer.

RHP Cody Anderson (4-2) did not factor in the decision. Anderson's line was 4.2 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, BB, 2K. He gave way to Francisco Valera who pitched two scoreless innings after surrendering two hits. Cole Cook (2-1) got the win. Cole pitched one and a third innings and allowed one hit and struck out one. Jeff Johnson entered the ballgame in the ninth inning and put down the Lugnuts to earn his ninth save on the season. The Captains won 4-3.

The Captains continue the road trip on Sunday Afternoon in Lansing, Michigan. The Captains will be playing Lugnuts for the second series of the season. Lansing took two out of three in Eastlake, Ohio. Saturday, Lake County will start LHP Shawn Morimando (1-0, 3.32) and the Lugnuts will counter with RHP Jesse Hernandez (3-2, 2.09). First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 PM.
