Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

Fort Wayne, IN - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (26-23) used Jake Hager's four hits and a seven-run eighth inning to win 11-2 over the Fort Wayne TinCaps (23-26) on Saturday night at Parkview Field. Todd Glaesmann also contributed with a two-run home run, and pitchers Ryan Carpenter and Jason McEachern held the TinCaps without a hit for the final six innings. The victory in game one of the four-game set keeps the Hot Rods in second place tie in the MWL's Eastern Division.

Trailing 2-0, the Hot Rods took advantage of three Fort Wayne errors to tie the score with two runs in the top of the fifth. Taylor Motter drew a two-out walk and stole second base. Joel Caminero then singled on the infield, and Motter scored from third base as the throw to first sailed high. Then, with Caminero at second base, Juniel Querecuto grounded to shortstop, and the play was bobbled by TinCap shortstop Jace Peterson. Caminero never broke stride around third base and drew a wild throw from Peterson at home to cross home to tie the score.

With the game tied 2-2 in the top of the eighth, the Hot Rods scored seven times to break the game wide open. Jeff Malm provided the go-ahead RBI on his single to centerfield. In the big inning, Jake Hager had two hits, including an RBI single of his own, and Motter cleared the bases with a three-run triple as the Hot Rods brought 11 men to the plate. Glaesmann's two-run longball came in the ninth to cap the Hot Rods offensive onslaught.

Starter Ryan Carpenter received a no decision but settled into form after the TinCaps hit back-to-back solo home runs in the second inning. The lefty lasted six innings and allowed just the two runs on three hits. Carpenter and reliever Jason McEachern, who earned his second win of the year, combined to retire 17 consecutive TinCap hitters from the third to the eighth innings and allowed a lone walk in the final six frames.

Continuing the Memorial Day weekend four-game set, the Hot Rods and TinCaps will meet on Sunday night at 6:05 PM CDT at Parkview Field in Fort Wayne, IN. Bowling Green will give the start to RHP Roberto Gomez (3-2, 3.50), while the TinCaps will counter with RHP Matt Wisler (1-3, 3.18).
