Burlington Bees News Release

BURLINGTON, Iowa - The Burlington Bees (21-27) ended a four-game losing streak with an 8-to-6 win over the Clinton LumberKings (17-31). The Bees blew another late lead, but Bobby Crocker hit a two-run, go-ahead home run in the eighth inning to help the Bees win.

The Bees had Drew Granier start the opener of the four game series against the LumberKings. Granier came into the game with the second best ERA in the league and the second most strikeouts. The right-hander actually earned the Bees' last win before Saturday night's victory.

Granier leads the league in several pitching categories, but he didn't have his best stuff against Clinton. The right- hander survived five innings before facing trouble in the sixth inning. Granier gave up three runs (two earned) in the sixth inning before the Bees manager Aaron Nieckula replaced Granier. Max Perlman came in and helped the Bees get out of the inning, but it wasn't before Clinton scored four runs.

Luckily the Bees had already built a 6-to-0 lead before the sixth inning. The Bees a run in the first on an RBI single by Nick Rickles. They scored three runs in the second with Wade Kirkland and B.A. Vollmuth getting the RBIs on two doubles. The Bees scored again in the third on another RBI double by Wade Kirkland.

The Bees led 6-to-4 heading into the top of the eighth, but Max Perlman and Drew Tyson struggled to hold onto the lead. The two combined to give up two earned runs and Tyson took his first blown save of the season. The Bees have blown three save opportunities in the last four games. The scored was tied 8-to-8 heading into the bot- tom of the eighth.

Chih-Fang Pan led off the inning with a base hit to right field, which gave Bobby Crocker a chance to give the Bees the lead. Crocker came into the game hitting .381 in his last five games and recently hit his first home run of the season. Crocker lifted a 1-0 offering from Tim Griffin high into the sky above left field. The ball kept car- rying until it snuck over the wall for a two-run home run. Jeff Urlaub (3-2) stayed in the game after appearing in the top of the eighth and shut the door in the ninth to earn his third win. The Bees won with an 8-to-6 final score.

The Bees play game two on Sunday at 2 p.m. The Bees will also celebrate Kids Day and Buzz's birthday. For information on Bees baseball and promotions, call (319) 754-5705 or visit www.gobees.com.
