CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa. - Eswarlin Jimenez pitched 8.1 for Cedar Rapids, allowing just 6 hits, but couldn't get the necessary run support for a victory in a 4-1 loss against the Quad Cities River Bandits.

In the first game of a 5-game series - including a doubleheader on Sunday - the Kernels (22-26) only score came from Ryan Jones in the 7th inning. Jones walked but moved to third on a Kaleb Cowart single, and scored when Frazier Hall hit into a double play on the right side of the infield.

The River Bandits (23-25) scored their 4 runs in just 2 innings. In the third, Nick Martini hit a double and eventually scored on a Luis Mateo single coupled with an outfield error by Kernel right fielder Andy Workman. Mateo moved to third on the error and then scored on a sacrifice fly from Tyler Rahmatulla.

The other Quad Cities runs came on Colin Walsh's 9th inning 2-run home run. It was the left fielder's Midwest League-leading 11th long-ball of the season.

The lefty took the loss - falling to 1-3 - while Quad Cities starting southpaw Hector Hernandez improved to 4-3. Also, Heath Wyatt recorded his 6th save of the season.
