Peoria, IL - The Peoria Chiefs fell victim to three Wisconsin Timber Rattlers homeruns Saturday night at Peoria Chiefs Stadium, as they fell by the score of 11-3. The loss puts the Chiefs at 22-27 on the season, as they head into game two of the four-game set Sunday afternoon at 2:00.

After a leadoff single in the top of the second by Nick Ramirez, a wild pitch by starter Gerardo Concepcion put a runner in scoring position. Greg Hopkins roped a double off the left-field wall plating the first run of the ballgame for Wisconsin. After a walk to Max Walla, another wild pitch put both runners in scoring position with still nobody out. Rafael Nada grounded out to third for the first out of the inning, but not before Hopkins trotted home doubling the lead, 2-0.

After Chadwin Stang reached on a bunt single in the third, Concepcion was unable to handle a sac bunt by Brandon Macias putting runners on first and second. The Chiefs got the first out of the inning when Macias unexpectedly took off for second base putting both runners at second where Wes Darvill applied the tag on Stang, leaving Macias standing at second. Jason Rogers followed the base running blunder with a single up the middle plating Macias and extending the lead to 3-0. After a strikeout of Ramirez, Hopkins made it 5-0 with a two-run blast onto the concourse beyond the berm in left-field.

The Chiefs got one back in the bottom half of the third against David Goforth. After two quick outs, Marco Hernandez lifted a fly ball just over the wall in left field for an opposite-field homerun, cutting the deficit to 5-1.

Wisconsin got the run back and more in the top of the fifth. Rogers followed a leadoff single by Macias with a double putting runners on second and third. For the second time in the ballgame, Hopkins followed up a strikeout of Ramirez with a homerun, this one a three-run shot, giving Wisconsin an 8-1 advantage.

An inning later, Wisconsin continued their power surge. After a one-out walk by Macias, Rogers smacked his team-leading sixth homerun of the year to deep left-center field, extending Wisconsin's lead to 10-1.

Hernandez was at it again for the Chiefs in the bottom of the sixth. The shortstop led off with a triple down the right field line, and was brought home a batter later by Zeke DeVoss cutting the deficit to 10-2. A wild pitch by Goforth put DeVoss in scoring postion. After Taiwan Easterling advanced DeVoss to third with a groundout to short, Wes Darvill plated DeVoss with a groundout to second, leaving the score 10-3.

The Timber Rattlers added another in the top of the seventh. Yadiel Rivera singled with one out and was joined on the base paths an out later by Dishon after a two-out walk. Hunter Cervenka came in to the ballgame and let both runners into scoring position with a wild-pitch to the first batter he faced. In that same at-bat, Stang singled passed the diving Darvill into left bringing home Rivera and putting Wisconsin up 11-3.

Concepcion (1-4) lasted 4 2/3 innings, allowing eight runs, five earned, on 12 hits, one walk, while striking out four. In his 2012 debut, Pena went two innings, allowing three runs on two hits, two walks, and a strikeout.
