TinCaps Receive Draft Choice Jankowski

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Travis Jankowski, the 21-year-old outfielder who was selected 44th overall in the supplemental first round of the 2012 MLB Draft by the San Diego Padres, has been transferred from the Arizona League Padres to the Fort Wayne TinCaps.

During his junior campaign at Stony Brook University this past season, he hit .412 (94-for-228) with 17 doubles, nine triples, five home runs, 45 RBI, 70 runs scored, 30 stolen bases in 35 attempts and 21 walks against just 17 strikeouts. Jankowski was named the Most Valuable Player of the Cape Cod Baseball League in 2011, hitting .329 with 22 RBI and 15 steals and leading the Cape League in hits (57), runs (31) and triples (seven). In two games with the AZL Padres this week, he went 2-8 at the plate with four runs batted in.

Jankowski helped to lead Stony Brook to a berth in the College World Series. Stony Brook led the nation with 52 wins.

Dating back to 1999 when Fort Wayne began its affiliation with San Diego, Jankowski becomes the 22nd supplemental first round or first round pick of the Padres to be sent to Fort Wayne. Recent notable first or supplemental first round picks to play for the TinCaps include Donavan Tate (2011, 2012), Cory Spangenberg (2011), Jaff Decker (2009) and Cory Luebke (2007, 2008).

Jankowski went 1-4 in his debut with the TinCaps on Friday night at Great Lakes.
