BOWLING GREEN, Kent. - Jake Hager led the Bowling Green Hot Rods' (4-4, 41-36) 17-hit attack to rout the Lansing Lugnuts (4-4, 51-26), 12-1, on Friday night at Bowling Green Ballpark.
The Lugnuts bullpen surrendered nine runs in three innings in the loss, the highest margin of defeat for the Blue Jays affiliate in 2012.
Hot Rods shortstop Hager went 5-for-5 with three doubles, and five RBI. Todd Glaesmann homered twice off of Aleson Escalante who allowed seven hits, six runs and three homers in two innings.
Righty Bryan Longpre allowed three runs and four hits in the eighth inning, closing out the scoring.
Lugs starter Anthony DeSclafani (Loss, 6-2) limited Bowling Green to three runs over five innings pitched, allowing six hits, two walks and striking out a pair.
Roberto Gomez (Win, 8-3), who started for the Hot Rods, stayed hot against the Lugnuts earning his fourth victory in four tries against Lansing. Gomez allowed just one unearned run in six innings of work while striking out five and walking just one.
The Lugs' only tally occurred in the sixth inning, with Carlos Perez (1-for-4) driving in Jon Berti (2-for-4) with an RBI single to center.
The rubber match of the three-game series is June 30th, at 8:05 p.m. ET with left-hander Justin Nicolino (3-0, 1.42) on the mound for the Lugnuts. Fellow lefty Felipe Rivero (6-6, 2.38) will start for the Hot Rods.
Lansing will return home on Wednesday, July 4th for a 7:05 p.m. game against the Great Lakes Loons. The opener of a three-game homestand will feature LAFCU Fireworks. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
