Clinton LumberKings News Release

Beloit, WI - Anthony Phillips had been waiting for a big game for a long time and he finally came through with a huge offensive performance on Friday night against Beloit. The LumberKings slick-fielding shortstop was 3-4 with a double, home run, two runs and three RBIs to lead Clinton to a 6-3 win, their third consecutive victory.

Jeremy Dobbs started the game for Clinton and worked into the sixth inning. After issuing a one-out walk to Steven Liddle, Dobbs' night was finished. He handed off to David Colvin who promptly walked Jhon Goncalves on four pitches. Colvin took Adam Bryant to a 2-0 count before coming back strike out the Beloit shortstop. He followed by finishing the inning with another strikeout as Matt Koch went down looking.

For the second time in as many nights, Beloit jumped out to an early lead after Liddle went yard in the second inning.

Clinton came right back in the third when Phillips ripped a two-out double down the left field line. Nate Melendres followed with a base hit to right center and Phillips slid around the tag of Koch to tie the game at 1-1. Jabari Blash and Dillon Hazlett collected run-scoring hits in the fourth inning to give the LumberKings a 3-1 lead.

After Beloit scored in the bottom half of the fourth, it was Phillips again providing the offense as he hit a Steven Gruver fastball over the left field wall for his third home run of the year and a 4-2 lead. Both teams quieted down as the game was handed to the bullpens. Tim Atherton threw three scoreless innings for Beloit but Phillips was at it one more time in the ninth.

The Snappers' Corey Williams walked Dan Paolini to start the inning and then allowed a single to Guillermo Pimentel.

Dillon Hazlett laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to move the runners to second and third. Phillips then laced a single up the middle that scored Paolini and Pimentel, giving Clinton a 6-2 lead.

Colvin, who entered the ninth having retired the previous eight batters he faced, allowed two hits in the frame but Beloit left the tying run in the on deck circle to end the game. Dobbs collected his second win of the year and Colvin notched his first save. Clinton will go for the series sweep on Saturday night when they send left-hander Jordan Shipers (2-3, 3.53) to the mound. Beloit counters with lefty Jason Wheeler (8-3, 3.61). First pitch from Beloit is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
