FORT WAYNE, Ind. - A mix of five Fort Wayne pitchers, who combined to strike out ten Bowling Green batters, led the TinCaps to a 4-3 victory over the Hot Rods in the rubber match of a three-game set at Parkview Field on Monday night. Lee Orr, who provided a game-tying home run on Sunday, scored what proved to be the difference-making run in the fifth inning for Fort Wayne.

Bowling Green (24-21) struck first, plating two runs against TinCaps starter Matt Wisler. The 19-year-old allowed an RBI double by Drew Vettleson and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Joshua Sale, putting the Hot Rods in front 2-0 after one half inning. Wisler pitched four innings, allowing a career-high seven hits, two runs, while walking two and striking out two.

In the bottom of the first, Fort Wayne (21-24) left fielder Donavan Tate scored from second base on a fielding error by Bowling Green first baseman Jeff Malm. After scoring the first run of the night for the TinCaps, Tate singled home the second with a two-out single to center field in the second inning, tying the game at two. The hit by Tate gives him at least one in six consecutive games, marking the longest hitting streak of his career.

Hot Rods starter Roberto Gomez (3-2) encountered trouble in the fifth. The righthander walked Travis Whitmore, but then retired the next two batters. With two outs, Orr doubled to left field, knocking Whitmore home and giving Fort Wayne a 3-2 lead. Gomez departed after that hit. He was replaced by Jason McEachern, who faced Yeison Asencio. The TinCaps right fielder grounded a ball to shortstop Juniel Querecuto, shooting it off of his glove and into centerfield. Orr scored on the play, extending the lead to 4-2, and Querecuto was charged with an error.

Gomez was charged with four runs, two earned, in four and two thirds innings. He walked a season-high four and struck out five.

Justin Hancock, pitching in relief of Wisler, gave up one run in the sixth to Bowling Green. He walked two of the first three batters in the sixth, and surrendered back-to-back singles to Ryan Brett and Drew Vettleson. Vettleson's hit scored catcher Alejandro Segovia, slimming the Fort Wayne lead to 4-3. Following that hit, James Needy (2-0) came on with the bases loaded and struck two men out to retire the side.

The TinCaps used four pitchers out of the bullpen, including Johnny Barbato and Daniel Cropper, who pitched the ninth for his third save of the year.

Tuesday is a day off for Fort Wayne. Wednesday features a 10:35 AM scheduled first pitch against South Bend at Coveleski Stadium. The scheduled starters are Cody Hebner for Fort Wayne and Tyler Green for the Silver Hawks.

NOTES: Fort Wayne's Donavan Tate played in the outfield for the first time since April 28, when he was placed on the disabled list. Prior to Monday's game, reliever Matt Stites was placed on the disabled list, and pitcher Yordany Ramirez was transferred from extended spring training to Fort Wayne.
