Cougars Swept by Rattlers

GRAND CHUTE, Wisc. - A three-run first helped carry the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers to a 7-4 victory over the Kane County Cougars on Monday afternoon, completing a three-game sweep at Fox Cities Stadium.

Jason Rogers kicked the scoring off in the first inning as he tripled Max Walla to the plate after Walla reached on an error by Orlando Calixte. Rogers then crossed the dish as Nick Ramirez laced a double to right to make it 2-0, Wisconsin (28-17). Ramirez touched home after a sacrifice fly by Ben McMahan.

Kane County (23-22) closed the gap with a run in the second and another in the third. Orlando Calixte doubled to the wall in left with Michael Antonio in the second while Antonio scored after McMahan was unable to field the ball cleanly off the padding. Danny Mateo's RBI groundout in the third inning, allowed Justin Trapp to score, pulling the Cougars within one.

Will West (1-0) made his season debut for the Rattlers and held the Cougars to three runs (two earned) in five frames. Aaron Brooks (3-5) worked six innings while striking out seven and allowing four runs (two earned). Wisconsin pulled away late as Walla picked up an RBI single in the seventh off Mike Giovenco. Nick Graffeo surrendered a pair in the eighth including a solo homer to McMahan.
