COMSTOCK PARK, MICH. - Eight of nine Silver Hawks (24-21) starters recorded at least one hit Monday and the Silver Hawks raced past West Michigan 6-1, taking the series from the Whitecaps (20-25) two games to one.

Jesse Darrah (4-2) worked into the sixth inning, allowing just three hits over 5.2 innings of scoreless baseball. The right-hander struck out four, walked two and earned the win. Brennan Smith (1-3) did not make it out of the fourth inning, allowing six earned runs on eight hits over 3.2 innings en route to his third loss.

The Silver Hawks scored two runs in the third inning and added four more in the fourth. Chris Ellison's two-RBI single in the fourth put the Silver Hawks up 6-0 and knocked Smith out of the game. Eight men came to the plate in the four-run fourth inning. Matt Helm started it with a solo home run (2) off the scoreboard in left field. Ender Inciarte also added an RBI basehit in the inning.

The Whitecaps did not score until the eighth inning on an RBI groundout from Aaron Westlake.

The Silver Hawks took the early lead on an RBI basehit from Josh Parr in the third inning. Gerson Montilla followed with a run-producing hit to make it 2-0. Parr finished 2-for-4 with a double.

Inciarte also finished 2-for-4 for South Bend.

Seth Simmons got the final out of the sixth inning and tossed a scoreless seventh inning. Matt Sample allowed an unearned run in the eighth inning before Willy Paredes struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning.

The Silver Hawks return to action Wednesday at Coveleski Stadium against the Fort Wayne TinCaps. First pitch is slated for 10:35 a.m. Right-hander Tyler Green (1-2, 3.04) starts for South Bend and he will opposed by righty Cody Hebner (5-1, 2.53).
