
Captains Walk off with Win in the 11th

Lake County Captains News Release
(Eastlake, OH) - Lake County got the walk off win the 11th inning on Monday night at Classic Park, the final was 2-1. In the inning, Leonardo Castillo led off with a infield single. Castillo was pinch ran for when he watched first base. Zach MacPhee, was the runner who entered the game. Jordan Casas laid down a sacrifice bunt, but the first baseman K.C. Hobson bobbled the ball and Casas was safe at first. The bases were loaded with nobody out. Francisco Lindor Lined out to shallow left field. Jordan Smith hit the ball on the ground to first base, Hobson threw the ball low to the plate and Zach MacPhee scored the winning run as Lake County prevailed 2-1.
The Lugnuts scored first in the top of the eighth inning. Jon Berti got a base hit to lead off the inning and then Kenny Wilson bunted him to second base. Chris Hawkins followed with a single to left field. That single scored Berti and it was 1-0. Later in the inning Kevin Pillar singled and Todd Hanklins the Captains left fielder threw out Hawkins at the plate to save another run.
The Captains offense didn't score a run in 24 straight innings. In the ninth, Todd Hankins walked to begin the inning and motored to third base, Francisco Lindor was intentionally walked to load the bases with one out. Jordan Smith hit a ground ball to short, Lansing got the force out but the relay throw pulled K.C. Hobson off the bag at first and Hankins scored to even the ballgame at 1-1.
RHP Jesse Hernandez (2-0) got a no decision for Lansing. Hernandez pitched seven innings allowing two hits no runs with one walk and two strikeouts. The Lugnuts used three pitchers out of the bullpen. Javier Avendano (1-3) was saddled with the loss. He went 1.2 IP, 2K.
LHP Shawn Morimando (1-0) got the no decision, Morimando went 5.0 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 3 K. Morimando gave way to Grant Sides. Sides entered the ballgame with a 14.2 scoreless innings streak on the line. Sides pitched 2.0 Innings and did not allow a run. In fact, Grant just gave up one hit, and one walk. Sides streak now stands at 16.2 Innings. Rob Nixon entered the game and went 2.1 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 K. Jeff Johnson (3-1) got the win for the Captains after his line was 1.2 IP, and striking out two.
The Captains are off Tuesday and will resume play in Wednesday night at West Michigan. The Captains will be on the road for seven games three games vs. the Whitecaps and four games in Lansing to take on the Lugnuts. Wednesday, Lake County will start RHP Felix Sterling (2-2, 2.85) and West Michigan will counter with RHP Wilson Palacios (3-3, 4.37).
