TinCaps Hold Off Rain, Lugnuts, 8-6

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Fort Wayne TinCaps (39-15; 84-40) tallied in each inning from the third through the eighth, topping the Lansing Lugnuts (21-32; 47-75), 8-6, on a rain-soaked Friday night at Parkview Field.
The game featured 22 hits, 13 walks, five hit batsmen, 10 pitchers, and 20 men stranded on base. It lasted three hours and 26 minutes, plus a 23-minute rain delay in the middle of the seventh inning.
The TinCaps' consistent offense wiped out an early 2-0 Lugnuts lead, making Doug Dascenzo the winningest manager in franchise history.
The victory did not come easily, though.
After Fort Wayne took a 7-2 lead with three runs in the seventh inning, the Lugnuts rallied against reliever Zach Herr. Welinton Ramirez led off with a double and was singled home by Balbino Fuenmayor. A.J. Jimenez doubled and Chris Emanuele drew a walk to load the bases, and Ryan Goins followed with a two-run single to make the score 7-5.
The TinCaps brought in reliever Brad Brach, who promptly served up a Justin McClanahan run-scoring single that cut the lead to a run. Brach bore down, though, inducing a double play grounder from Johermyn Chavez to retire the side.
The Caps added an insurance run in the home half of the eighth on Jaff Decker's double and a two-base throwing error by Chavez, closing out the scoring.
Brach hurled a scoreless ninth to wrap up his 31st save of the season.
Jason Roenicke (1-4) suffered the loss, allowing a pair of runs on five hits in relief of starter Chris Holguin.
In the losing effort, Lugnuts left fielder Ramirez went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a walk in his Midwest League debut. Ramirez had been promoted earlier in the day from Class Short-A Auburn.
The two teams play the third game of the series on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m., with Lansing right-hander Ryan Shopshire (0-0, 0.00) taking on TinCaps right-hander Stiven Osuna (9-7, 4.00).
