
Dragons do in 'Caps again

DAYTON, OH- In his third start of the year, Dayton right hander Jordan Hotchkiss handcuffed the West Michigan Whitecaps as the Dragons won the game, 5-3, at Fifth Third Field on Friday night. Whitecaps' starter Brayan Villarreal lost his third straight decision. The victory gives Dayton a win in each of the first two games of the series.
Brayan Villarreal entered Friday's start having lost his last two decisions. Villarreal ran into trouble in the second when he gave up consecutive hits to Carlos Mendez and Tony Brown to begin the inning. Mendez scored on Brown's double, and Kevin Coddington drove home Brown with an RBI single.
Dayton's Cody Puckett hit a sacrifice fly to left that brought home Alex Oliveras for the Dragons' third run.
West Michigan tallied a couple of runs in the top of the fifth. Joe Bowen singled with two outs, and Gustavo Nunez walked. Down 3-0, Brent Wyatt ripped a two-run double to right to score Bowen and Nunez for a 3-2 Dayton lead.
A Cody Puckett solo homerun in the bottom of the fifth helped Dayton rebuild a 4-2 lead. Byron Wiley followed with a double, and Carlos Mendez delivered an RBI single to plate Wiley for a 5-2 Dragons' advantage.
The Whitecaps got within two runs on Jordan Lennerton's solo shot in the ninth. It was Lennerton's eleventh homer of the year.
Villarreal takes the loss. He's now 4-4. Villlarreal gave up 9 hits and 5 runs with no walks and 7 strikeouts.
Jordan Hotchkiss threw 5 innings, allowing 6 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks, and 6 strikeouts.
Brent Wyatt, Billy Nowlin, and Jordan Lennerton each had 2 hits.
Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. ET it's game three of the series at Fifth Third Field.
