
Bees Defeat River Bandits and Even Series

Davenport, IA (August 21, 2009) - The Burlington Bees evened the four-game series with Quad Cities at a game apiece defeating the River Bandits 5-3 Friday night. Nick Francis had a two-run homerun to give the Bees the lead in the sixth inning and the Bullpen threw 3.1 scoreless innings to secure the win.
Quad Cities opened the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the second inning. The Bees then got within one run scoring one run in the top of the third inning. Fernando Garcia singled, stole second and then moved to third on an error. Patrick Norris then hit into an RBI ground-out to cut the Bees' deficit to 2-1.
Quad Cities got their two-run lead back scoring one in the bottom of the third inning. The Bees then got back within one run once again with one run in the top of the fourth inning. David Wood led the inning off with a single and moved to second on an error. He then scored on a one-out Jose Bonilla single.
The Bees took the lead for the first time in the sixth inning. David Wood led the inning off with a walk. Francis then came to the plate and hit his 14th homerun of the season to centerfield to give the Bees a 4-3 lead. They added to that lead in the seventh inning Norris led the inning off with a triple and scored on a David Wood sacrifice fly.
Manauris Baez got the start for the Bees and also the win to move to 7-5 this season. In 5.2 innings, he allowed three runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and one walk. Blaine Hardy pitched 2.1 shutout innings allowing two hits with three strikeouts and one walk. Hardy picked up his fourth hold of the season. Barry Bowden had a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his tenth save of the season striking out one and walking no one.
The Bees outhit the River Bandits 11-10. Norris, Bonilla and Shawn Griffin each had two hits. Francis extended his hitting streak to 11 games with his homerun and had two RBI. David Wood scored two runs.
The Bees continue the four-game series at Quad Cities Saturday night. Ivor Hodgson is the scheduled starter with first pitch is scheduled for 7:00. The game can be heard on News-Radio 1490 KBUR and online at www.GoBees.com. The Bees return home for a four-day home stand beginning on Monday night.
