SUNDAY AFTERNOON: Before Monday's day off, on Sunday, the 'Caps fell to the Loons, 3-1. Fort Wayne had its chances after Great Lakes built a 3-0 lead after 7 innings. Tirso Ornelas scored on a throwing error by the Loons in the 8th to cut the deficity , 3-1. The TinCaps left the bases loaded in 3 different innings, including the 9th.

GO IRISH: On Monday, the TinCaps spent the off-day in South Bend touring the University of Notre Dame. Players and staff had the chance to see the recently renovated Notre Dame Stadium, as well as iconic spots on campus like Touchdown Jesus (Hesburgh Library), the Golden Dome (Main Building), the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, and the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes. The team also had a luncheon on campus, meeting ND Head Baseball Coach Mik Aoki, and learning about the university's history in a bi-lingual presentation that focused on the role of immigrants in shaping the school.

DRAFT DAY: The MLB Draft started on Monday night. Fort Wayne's parent club, the Padres, had the 7th overall pick and selected LHP Ryan Weathers out of Loretto HS in Tennessee. With the 38th pick, San Diego took SS Xavier Edwards from North Broward Prep HS in Florida. At pack 74, they took OF Grant Little out of Texas Tech. The Draft continues today with Rounds 3-10. It wraps up Wednesday with Rounds 11-40.

ALUMNI NEWS: On Monday, 2017 TinCap Fernando Tatis Jr. was named the Texas League (Double-A) Player of the Month for May. Tatis Jr. slashed .336/.414/.639 with 12 doubles, 2 triples, 7 home runs, and 16 RBIs for the Missions in May. To make the accomplishment even more impressive, Tatis Jr. is the youngest player in the Texas League at just 19 years old. Last season, Tatis Jr. batted .281 with 21 home runs, which was a Fort Wayne franchise record, and 69 RBIs.

BIGGEST COMEBACK SINCE: The TinCaps overcame a 6-0 deficit to win 7-6 on Friday. The 'Caps hadn't overcome a deficit of more than 5 runs to win a game since Aug. 7, 2014, when Fort Wayne erased an 11-2 deficit against the Lake County Captains in an eventual 12-11 win in 10 innings. Fernando Perez hit a game-tying grand slam in the 8th. The TinCaps had major leaguers Trea Turner (Nationals), Franmil Reyes (Padres), and Dustin Peterson (Braves) in the lineup that night, plus Jake Bauers (Rays, Triple-A Durham) and Josh VanMeter (Reds, Triple-A Louisville). Lake County had Clint Frazier (Yankees, Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre).

BRUSH WITH FAME: ESPN anchor/host Adnan Virk tweeted a photo of himself Saturday wearing a TinCaps hat managing his young son's little league team. The TinCaps of the West Hartford Youth Baseball League won first place in the regular season. The WHYBL postseason began Sunday with a win, and the "TinCaps" are moving onto the Semifinals on Saturday.

DONATION: Along with their parent club, the Padres, the TinCaps have donated $1,000 to provide bats and helmets to the Little League Challenger Division of Fort Wayne. The Challenger Baseball League is an adaptive baseball program for individuals with physical and intellectual challenges (ages 4-22). Johnny TinCap and members from the front office staff a delivered the bats and helmets to the Challenger League on Sunday afternoon.

BURGEONING BULLPEN: TinCaps relievers have posted a 3.33 ERA over their last 36 games. In this time, the 'pen has been led by Travis Radke, Caleb Boushley, Evan Miller, Jordan Guerrero, and Ben Sheckler. Through the first 19 games of the year, the bullpen had a 7.47 ERA.

FEELING EXTRA: The TinCaps have 31 extra-base hits over their last 10 games. Fort Wayne matched a season high with 7 extra-base hits on May 24 @ West Michigan and again on May 26 @ Lansing. (The team also tallied 7 XBHs on April 13 @ Bowling Green.) Over their last 10, the 'Caps have hit 7 triples, 19 doubles, and 5 home runs.

MILLER TIME: TinCaps reliever Evan Miller earned his 1st save as a TinCap on Saturday. The LaPorte, Ind., native who went to IPFW has posted a 0.40 ERA across 13 outings this year (22.2 IP). Miller has had 7 consecutive scoreless appearances dating to May 11 when he allowed an unearned run @ Kane County in extras innings. The only time Miller has allowed an earned run this year was May 9 @ Quad Cities.
