Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

Appleton, WI - The Quad Cities River Bandits avoided being shut out in the first game of a seven-game road trip, but their late push wasn't enough as they fell to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 3-1 at Fox Cities Stadium on Tuesday night.

Wisconsin jumped in front with an unearned run in the first inning.  With one out, Trevor Morrison lined a single into left.  Payton Henry followed with an infield single to the left side that was thrown past first base by Miguelangel Sierra.  The error allowed Morrison to go all the way to third. Demi Orimoloye followed with a tapper back to the mound that scored Morrison to give the Timber Rattlers a 1-0 lead.

The Timber Rattlers lead doubled in the third.  Kenny Corey started the inning with a single before the next two hitters were retired.  With two outs, Henry joined Corey on base with a single.  The next batter, Orimoloye, punched a single into center that allowed Corey to race home and give Wisconsin a 2-0 advantage.

The lead grew to 3-0 in the bottom of the seventh for Wisconsin.  Tristen Lutz opened the frame with a single off of reliever Peter Solomon. After a fly ball to right was good for the first out of the inning, Henry smacked a double over the head of Bryan De La Cruz and off the wall to score Lutz and make it 3-0.

Wisconsin starting pitcher Bowden Francis threw 7.0 shutout innings and struck out nine while scattering three hits to earn the win. The Bandits avoided being shut out with a run in the ninth.  Ruben Castro walked to open the frame and took second on defensive indifference.  De La Cruz grounded a base hit up the middle to score the runner and get the Bandits on the board.  However, with the tying run at the plate, Rodrigo Benoit retired the next two hitters to end the game.

Jairo Solis rebounded from a tough debut to work 5.0 innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits and three walks. Solomon followed by tossing the final 3.0 innings during which he allowed one run on four hits and struck out four.

The Bandits mustered just four hits.  Castro reached base in all three of his at bats.  Henry went 3-3 with a walk for Wisconsin.

The River Bandits (32-26) and Timber Rattlers (26-32) resume the series on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. The River Bandits hand the ball to RHP Enoli Paredes (0-2, 2.11). Wisconsin turns to RHP Nelson Hernandez (7-2, 4.20).
