WEDNESDAY NIGHT: The TinCaps shut out the Loons in front of the largest crowd at Parkview Field this season, 7-0. A sell-out of 8,805 saw MacKenzie Gore throw a career-long 6 shutout innings as the TinCaps won their 3rd in a row and 10th in their last 12. With the win, the TinCaps went above .500 in the overall standings for the 1st time all year. It was also the 2nd consecutive year the TinCaps have shutout their opponent at home on the 4th of July after winning last year, 4-0, over the Lake County Captains.
HOT CAPS: The TinCaps have won 10 of their last 12 games, including 3 straight, and 6 in a row at Parkview Field. During these 12 games, Fort Wayne has outscored its opponents 61-29.
SHUTOUT STREAK: The TinCaps have recorded back-to-back shutouts in the regular season for the first time since Aug. 12-13, 2015, when they did it at home against the Quad Cities River Bandits. Among the pitchers involved in those shutouts were Dinelson Lamet (starter) and Kyle McGrath (reliever), who both made their MLB debuts with the Padres in 2017. Fort Wayne went 22 consecutive scoreless innings over a 3-game stretch that started Aug. 12. Meanwhile, in last year's playoffs, the 'Caps shut out the Dayton Dragons in back-to-back must-win games Sept. 10 and 11.
PATINO: Starter Luis Patiño went a career long 6 1/3 innings, allowed 3 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, and stuck out 6 last time out on Friday, June 29 @ Lake County. The 18-year-old Colombian is currently the 3rd youngest pitcher in the MWL and holds a 2.95 ERA. Patiño gave up 7 ER in 3.1 IP @ West Michigan on May 22 in his 2nd start. Around that start, Luis has only allowed 5 ER in 33.1 IP, good for a 1.35 ERA in 7 other starts. In all of his starts this year, Patiño has walked only 9 batters compared to 41 strikeouts.
BIG CROWDS: Last night's 8,805 fans marked the 6th largest crowd in Parkview Field history. 6 of the 7 largest crowds in Parkview Field history have now come on the 4th of July.
TINCAPS FIRST: Since Parkview Field opened in 2009, MacKenzie Gore became the third starter to not allow a run on the 4th of July. (The TinCaps have been home on the 4th 10 years in a row.) Michel Baez (2017) and Frank Garces (2012) both threw 5 scoreless innings in their Independence Day starts.
SOMETHING ABOUT THE LOONS: Robbie Podorsky has raked against the Loons this season. In 7 games, Robbie is slashing .548/.576/.774 with a double, 3 triples, 9 runs scored, 9 RBIs, and 6 stolen bases. Podorsky went 5-for-5 and 4-for-5 in games earlier this season vs. Great Lakes. Last night, Podorsky's average dropped against the Loons after a 2-for-4 performance with a triple & 3 RBIs.
SUWINSKI IN STRIDE: In 10 games in the 2nd half, Jack Suwinski is 11-for-32 (.344) with a double, 2 triples, a homer, 3 RBIs, and 5 walks.
LEAGUE LEADERS: Jeisson Rosario is tied for 4th in runs (53), tied for 6th in walks (45), and 10th in OBP (.384)... Esteury Ruiz is tied for 2nd in SB (30)... Travis Radke is 3rd in saves (11).
ADVANCED STATS LEAGUE LEADERS: Jeisson Rosario is 10th in BB% (15%) and 8th in BB/K (0.74)... Tirso Ornelas has the 8th lowest Swing & Miss% (7%).
BULLPEN BOOMERANG: TinCaps relievers have posted a 2.87 ERA over the last 64 games since April 25. In this time, the 'pen has been led by Travis Radke, Caleb Boushley, Evan Miller, and Ben Sheckler. Through the first 19 games of the year, the bullpen had allowed 60 ER in 72.1 IP for a 7.47 ERA.
