Davenport, IA - Dominant pitching sent the Beloit Snappers (39-43) to a 2-1 victory in the series finale against the Quad Cities River Bandits on July 5th at Modern Woodman Park in front of 2,431 fans.

Between starter Wyatt Marks and relievers Seth Martinez and Nick Highberger, the River Bandits were held to just one run and two hits. They had a no-hitter through the first 7.2 innings.

Marks pitched six scoreless and hitless innings with five walks and five strikeouts, getting out of some jams and pitching around trouble. Seth Martinez pitched 1.1 hitless innings before lead-off man Alfredo Angarita lined a single down the third base line. Angerita was tagged out at second base trying to stretch the hit into a double after a good throw from left fielder Mickey McDonald.

For the Snappers, it was the deepest the pitching staff had taken a no-hitter this season since their three pitcher, combined no-hitter against the Burlington Bees on April 12th. That was a 2-0 win with Bryce Conley, Ty Damron and Josh Reagan combining for the team's sixth all-time no-hitter.

The first run came in the top of the eighth when Snappers second baseman Ryan Gridley lined an RBI double to score catcher Jordan Devencenzi from second. It broke a 0-0 tie.

Mickey McDonald came in to play for Lazaro Armenteros in the eighth inning. In his first and only at bat, he launched his first home run of the season to right field into the Mississippi River, putting the Snappers up 2-0.

That extra run would be critical, as the Bandits scored a run in the bottom of the ninth, a passed ball on Jordan Devencenzi that allowed Miguelangel Sierra to score from third base to make it 2-1.

Nick Highberger came on in the ninth inning for the Snappers. Even after allowing a run, he struck out Jonathan Lacroix for the final out of the ball game.

The Snappers took two of the three games played in the series, including a 6-5 win Wednesday night on Independence Day. Game two of the series was suspended in the sixth inning and will be made up when the River Bandits come to Beloit in August.

For Beloit, they now have at least one extra-base hit in all 13 games played this second half.

The Snappers will return home to Pohlman Field for a four-game series against the Clinton LumberKings. Right-hander Jean Ruiz will be on the rubber to start game one on Friday at 7:00 p.m.

Friday will be a More For Your Money Friday special. The Snappers have your Friday nights covered.
