
Rickey Ramirez joins Kernels from Elizabethton

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announce that RHP Rickey Ramirez will join the Kernels from Elizabethton and RHP Tanner Kiest has been released from the roster. Brian Maloney, Twins Senior Manager of Minor League Operations, announced the move.
Ramirez was assigned to the Elizabethton roster on May 5th. He made two relief appearances for the Kernels, posting an 0-1 record and 5.40 ERA. In 3.1 IP, he allowed three hits and two runs with a walk. He was selected by the Twins in the 15th round of the 2017 First Year Player Draft out of Fresno State.
Kiest was activated from the restricted list on May 31st and made seven appearances (two starts) for the Kernels, posting an 0-1 record and 7.98 ERA with one save. In 14.2 IP, he allowed 17 hits and 14 runs (13 earned) with 14 walks and 14 strikeouts. He was signed by the Twins as a non-drafted free agent on December 18, 2017.
Ramirez is active and available for tonight's 6:35 PM vs. Wisconsin. With today's transactions, the Kernels roster is at the MWL maximum of 25 active players, with three players currently on the DL.
The Kernels wrap up a short, two-game series with Wisconsin tonight at 6:35 PM with the gates opening at 5:30 PM. They are on the road July 6-9 at Kane County and return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Wednesday, July 11 to host Fort Wayne.
