Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
EASTLAKE, Ohio - The TinCaps struck first, but the Lake County Captains' five-run third inning proved to be the difference in Fort Wayne's 6-4 loss Friday night at Classic Auto Group Park.
TinCaps (10-15) catcher Anthony Villar drove in all four of his team's runs, a high for him in his Minor League Baseball career since being drafted by the Padres in 2021. The third-year 'Cap hit a two-run double in the fourth to knock in left fielder Tyler Robertson and second baseman Nerwilian Cedeño. Vilar also crushed a two-run homer in the fifth. Over his last three games, Vilar has seven RBIs.
Right fielder Kai Murphy continued his hot series as well with two hits, including a double. Against Lake County (14-11) this week, Murphy is hitting .438 with three doubles. Defensively, he provided another outfield assist, cutting down a runner at the plate in the third. He leads the Midwest League with four on the season.
After Henry Baez started and went the first five innings, out of the bullpen, David Morgan matched a career long with three innings. The Captains (14-11) added an insurance run in the eighth.
The TinCaps had nine hits and drew five walks. Fort Wayne finished 2-for-16 with runners in scoring position, leaving 12 runners on base, plus another caught stealing.
