Minot, ND - The Tauros kick off a five game homestand this weekend with a pair of games against the St. Cloud Blizzard. The Tauros took three points in as many games from the Bobcats coming out of the Christmas break while the Blizzard lost their only game since Christmas to the Wilderness on New Years Eve 5-3.
The Tauros have dominated the Blizzard of late going 20-5-1 over the last two plus seasons. This season the Tauros are 5-1-0 against the Blizzard and have outscored them by 14 goals thanks in large part to an 11-4 victory on November 30th. Nik Armstrong Kingkade and Cade Stibbe each have 10 points against the Blizzard. Kyler Kleven has nine points against St. Cloud including a hat trick in the 11-4 victory.
St. Cloud meanwhile has had plenty of offense as well when playing the Tauros scoring 21 goals in the first six meetings of the year. Brady Bjork and Bud Winter each have seven points against the Tauros this season; while Jack Suchy, Ryan O'Neil, and former Tauro Ryan Green each have three goals in the season series. As the season series would suggest defense has been an issue for the Blizzard however; they allow a league worst 4.40 goal per game which is significantly worse than second-to-last Maine who allows 3.91.
The weekend set starts a run of six of the next seven games being against teams below the Tauros in the standings. A good showing during that stretch would go a long way towards locking the Tauros into the NAHL Central Division playoff picture. The Tauros remain just eight points behind first place Aberdeen but just five points ahead of fifth place Minnesota. The Central Division will be a dog fight as always as even last place St. Cloud has shown there are no nights off with wins over wins over everyone in the division except Aberdeen whom they have only played twice.
