NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX - It was a tough start to 2020 as the Odessa Jackalopes (7-20-1-1) fell to the Lone Star Brahmas (26-8-0-1) by a score of 9-0 at the NYTEX Sports Center on Friday night.

After a furious and evenly-matched first period that was highlighted by an Isaiah Huempfner fight, the Jackalopes fell down 2-0 in the second period after two Brahma goals in less than a minute. The first was scored on the power play by Joey Baez and the second was scored even strength by CJ Walker. Both gentlemen wound end the night with multiple goals.

Down 2-0 in the third, the Jackalopes looked to have a strong showing but instead it was Lone Star who came out of the gates flying. Baez scored two goals in the first five minutes and one second to secure the hat trick.

But the Brahmas didn't stop there.

Up on the Jackalopes 4-0, Walker added his second of the night before three straight goals by Will Stromp earned his first hat trick of the season and Lone Star an 8-0 lead.

The best chance the Jackalopes had to score was late in the third as Huempfner had a breakaway from center ice but was stopped by Lone Star goalie Cayden Bailey. On the ensuing shift the Brahmas went down the ice and scored their ninth goal to cap off the victory. The Brahmas out-shot the Jackalopes 32-17 over the course of the game and capitalized on two of their six power play chances. The Jackalopes were held scoreless on three trips to the Speed Specialty Power Play.

While it is not the start to the year that the Jackalopes wanted, they still have two more games in North Richland Hills and a series win is still in play for the Jacks. The second game of the weekend will be played on Saturday night at 7:30 pm.
