
IceRays Start New Year with 4-2 Loss at Shreveport

SHREVEPORT, La. - The Corpus Christi IceRays fell to the Shreveport Mudbugs by a 4-2 final Friday inside George's Pond at Hirsch Memorial Coliseum. Shreveport (22-11-0-0, 44 pts.) improved to 8-0 this season against Corpus Christi (13-17-2-3, 31 pts.), increasing its lead for fourth place in the NAHL's South Division to 13 points.
Kyle Schroeder and Erik Bargholtz scored for the IceRays.
Shreveport's Anton Rubtsov ended a scoreless tie with 28.3 seconds left in the first period with a goal out front.
In the second period, Sam Miller scored his Mudbugs-leading 10th goal of the season with a slap shot from the left point, recording a power-play goal at 2:24.
Schroeder responded a few minutes later, following up on his own rebound at 5:29.
Shreveport regained a two-goal advantage with another last-minute goal as Brent Keefer sped in and scored with 43.1 seconds left in the second period.
Tim Khokhlachev gave the Mudbugs their only three-goal lead of the night by chopping in a rebound at 8:16 of the third period.
Bargholtz notched the final goal of the game at 10:54, firing a shot from the right circle off an assist from Corey Clifton, marking Clifton's first NAHL point in his second game.
Shreveport outshot Corpus Christi by a 33-25 margin.
The game was the IceRays' fourth of an eight-in-a-row stretch against the Mudbugs. The two teams rematch Saturday night in Shreveport before wrapping up their season series with a 3-in-3 Jan. 10-12 in Corpus Christi. The IceRays' next home game, Friday, Jan. 10 at 7:05 p.m., is Pro Wrestling Night presented by Bud Light, featuring appearances by wrestling superstars Luke Harper and Sammy Guevara.
