Portland Timbers News Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - Making their second straight trip to the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs, the No. 5 seed Portland Timbers travel for a midweek road match against No. 4 seed FC Dallas in a single-elimination, Western Conference Knockout Round match on Wednesday at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas; kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. (Pacific). Wednesday's playoff match will be televised on ROOT SPORTS and UniMás, with local radio broadcasts on 750 AM/102.9 FM The Game (English) and La GranD 1150 AM/93.5 FM (Spanish).

MLS Cup Playoffs history

The Timbers (15-10-9, 54pts) return to the MLS Cup Playoffs for the fourth time in their MLS history, also marking the first time Portland has qualified for the postseason in consecutive seasons during its MLS era. This year's playoff match against FC Dallas marks the second Knockout Round contest for the Timbers, who defeated Sporting Kansas City in a penalty-kick shootout in the 2015 playoffs. Historically, Portland is one of two teams in MLS postseason history that has won at least half of its road playoff matches (3-1-2) and posted a positive goal differential (+2).

Against FC Dallas

The Knockout Round matchup against FC Dallas (16-9-9, 57pts) marks the second time the two sides have met in the playoffs. The Timbers and FC Dallas squared off in the two-legged Western Conference Championship in 2015, with Portland advancing 5-3 on aggregate on its way to the club's first MLS Cup victory. Portland earned a pair of draws against FC Dallas during the regular season in 2018 - a 1-1 draw on the road in the first meeting of the season on March 24 and a scoreless result at Providence Park on Sept. 29. The Timbers are unbeaten in their last four matches overall (1-0-3) against FC Dallas and have posted a mark of 1-0-1 in postseason competition.

Up next

The winner of Wednesday's Knockout Round match will advance to the Western Conference Semifinals against either No. 1 seed Sporting Kansas City or No. 2 seed Seattle Sounders FC in a two-leg, aggregate goals series starting on Sunday, Nov. 4.
