FC Dallas (16-9-9, 57 points) hosts the Portland Timbers (15-10-9, 54 points) in a match presented by Toyota on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at Toyota Stadium at 8:30PM. This will be the third game between the two clubs in 2018. Both previous meetings ended in draws (1-1 on 3/24/18; 0-0 on 9/29/18).

Postseason Notes

This is FC Dallas' first postseason appearance since 2016 and and 16th overall. FC Dallas is 14-21-8 in postseason games and 3-3-3 since Oscar Pareja became head coach in 2014. This is just Dallas' second match on Halloween. FCD played the LA Galaxy on October 31, 1999 in a Semifinal match, losing 2-1 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.

Knockout Round Notes

MLS' Knockout Round is a single-elimination match that allows the winner to advance to the Conference Semifinals. Since the current format started in 2015, Western Conference teams that host Knockout Round matches are undefeated. The last time FC Dallas hosted a Knockout Round match as the No. 4 seed was in 2014, earning a 2-1 win over Vancouver at home. FC Dallas is 1-1-0 in Knockout Round matches. Dallas lost to the New York Red Bulls in the 2011 KO Round.

Playing on Short Rest

FC Dallas fell 2-1 to the Colorado Rapids on Sunday. Dallas has handled quick turnarounds well in 2018. Playing on four days of rest or less this season, Dallas is 4-1-1.

Against the Timbers

FCD is 7-6-7 vs. Portland in regular season matches and 6-1-4 in matches played at Toyota Stadium with both teams playing to a draw in the last two meetings in Frisco. In the playoffs, the Timbers beat FC Dallas 5-3 on aggregate in their only playoff meeting in the 2015 Western Conference Finals. FCD played to a 2-2 draw in Leg Two of that series in Frisco.

About the Portland Timbers

The Timbers are 2-2-1 over their last five matches. Portland posted wins in back-to-back games before losing to the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-1 in the final game of the regular season. Timbers' head coach Giovanni Savarese rested most of starters against the Whitecaps.
