PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers and Portland Thorns FC have been recognized by the Portland Business Journal's 2019 Commercial Real Estate Transformer Awards for the renovations and expansion of Providence Park, it was announced today.

The CRE Transformer Awards recognize outstanding projects in commercial real estate that carry the ethos of Portland. These awards are intended to showcase projects that are leading the way in design, function and impact on the regional development landscape.

In partnership with Allied Works Architecture and Turner Construction, the $85 million, privately funded transformation of Providence Park spanned 20 months and included extensive renovations and improvements throughout the stadium. Most notably, the project included the addition of 4,000 new seats as part of a three-tiered eastside expansion, increasing the capacity to 25,218.

During the 2019 season, Providence Park featured record-breaking crowds for both the Timbers and Thorns FC. The Timbers extended their sellout streak to 161 games, averaging 25,218 fans. Thorns FC concluded the season averaging 20,098 fans, establishing a new attendance record. Notably, both clubs ranked in the top ten in attendance among professional soccer teams (men's or women's) in the United States and Canada.

The club was among those honored at the CRE Transformer Awards luncheon in downtown Portland on Thursday afternoon.
