Timbers Host Real Salt Lake in Round of 32 Match of 2023 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Tonight

The Portland Timbers will host Real Salt Lake in the Round of 32 match of the 2023 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at Providence Park tonight, Wednesday, May 10. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. (Pacific) and will be streamed live on the Bleacher Report app and B/R YouTube Channels.

Tonight's match marks the 36th meeting between the Timbers and Real Salt Lake across all competitions. Portland has a record of 13-14-9 against RSL and 7-3-7 when playing them at home. The Timbers have faced Salt Lake in the U.S. Open Cup twice before - a 2-0 loss in the 2015 fifth round and a 2-1 loss in the 2013 semifinals. With both previous meetings being played on the road, the Timbers will host RSL in Open Cup play at Providence Park for the first time. In this year's tournament, Portland advanced to the Round of 32 with a 3-1 victory over USL-side Orange County SC on April 26 at Providence Park. Marvin Loría, Tyler Clegg and Jaroslaw Niezgoda registered goals to help Portland to its victory. Tonight's match marks Portland's 37th match in the U.S. Open Cup, dating back to 2004, with an overall record of 20-16-0 in the competition and 10-7-0 when playing at home. The Timbers have advanced to the quarterfinal round four times (2013, 2014, 2018, 2019) and to semifinal rounds in 2013 and 2019.
