Austin FC Midfelder Owen Wolff Named to U.S. Roster for 2023 Fifa U-20 World Cup

Austin, TEXAS - U.S. Soccer announced today the U.S. U-20 Men's Youth National Team (MYNT) roster for the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup, with Austin FC midfielder Owen Wolff named to the 21-player squad which will compete at the tournament beginning May 20 in Argentina.

"It's an honor to be called up to represent the U.S. at the highest level of U-20 soccer in the world," said Wolff. "My experience with Austin FC has prepared me well for this opportunity and I'll do everything I can to help the team achieve its goals."

The 18-year-old Wolff earns his third call-up at the U-20 international level, following his participation in the U.S. U-20 MYNT's domestic training camp in January and international training camp in Spain in March. During the team's time in Spain, Wolff scored a backheel goal in the U.S. U-20's match against England U-20. He also scored for the U.S. U-19 MYNT at the Slovenia Nations Cup in 2021.

Wolff became Austin FC's first Homegrown signing in September 2021 at age 16 and was the first Homegrown player to appear in a match for the Verde & Black in the team's 3-1 win over Sporting Kansas City on November 3, 2021. On May 18, 2022, Wolff earned his first career start against Los Angeles FC, and recorded his first professional assist 11 days later against LA Galaxy.

He tallied his first professional goal and second career assist on March 11, 2023 in a 2-1 away win over Real Salt Lake, and contributed two (2) assists in a 2-2 away draw with Portland Timbers on May 6, 2023. Both performances earned Wolff selections to the MLS Team of the Matchday.

"We're extremely proud of Owen to have earned the chance to compete in a major international tournament," said Austin FC Interim Sporting Director Sean Rubio. "His growth as a professional has been impressive to watch during his time in Austin and we wish him the best of luck in Argentina."

The U.S. U-20 MYNT were drawn in Group B for the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup, and will face Ecuador (May 20), Fiji (May 23), and Slovakia (May 26) in group play.
