Timbers Fall 3-0 to Seattle Sounders FC at Providence Park

PORTLAND, Ore. - Returning to Providence Park for their first home match since March 8, the Portland Timbers fell 3-0 to Seattle Sounders FC on Sunday night. Facing a quick turnaround, the Timbers play their first road contest of the season on Wednesday, Aug. 26, against the San Jose Earthquakes.

Goal-Scoring Plays

SEA - Raúl Ruidíaz (Joevin Jones, Nicolás Lodeiro), 72nd minute: Joevin Jones delivered a cross from the left edge of the box to Raúl Ruidíaz, who re-directed the ball from the corner of the six-yard box just inside the left post.

SEA - Raúl Ruidíaz, 83rd minute: Stefan Frei played a drop kick from inside his goal box that was flicked on by Will Bruin to Ruidíaz, making a run in behind the Timbers backline. Ruidíaz dribbled into the box and converted from close range.

SEA - Kelvin Leerdam (Raúl Ruidíaz, Will Bruin), 85th minute: Ruidíaz received a pass inside the box and laid the ball off for Kelvin Leerdam, who made a late run toward goal and finished just outside the six-yard box.

Notes

Sebastián Blanco played in his 100th regular-season match for the Timbers.

Blanco is the eight player in the club's MLS era and the 23rd player across all eras to appear in 100 regular-season matches.

Diego Chara appeared in his 22nd regular-season match against Seattle. That is the most of any player in the fixture in MLS play.

Jaroslaw Niezgoda made his Providence Park debut in the match.

Tómas Conechny made his 2020 debut in the match.

The game was the 108th between Portland and Seattle since the two teams first squared off in 1975.
