Inter Miami CF News Release
Following a historic 3-2 win for Inter Miami over Orlando City SC in its home debut to get the first points and win in Club history, our team immediately returns to action on Wednesday, August 26, at 8 p.m. ET for its second home match of the season. Manager Diego Alonso shared his delight after clinching the historic result for Inter Miami over the weekend but remained focused on continuing to grow as a team by working hard day after day as he looked ahead to the upcoming fixture against Atlanta United FC.
"The team had been looking for the win for a while and never stopped fighting to earn it. It'll undoubtedly serve our confidence well, but confidence is also built through hard work, day by day. Confidence isn't built through results, it's built by believing in an idea and defending that idea", said the Uruguayan manager. "I think the players have done that at all times and the confidence in our idea has been there, the confidence in the way we want to play and in what we believe we can achieve too. So, I think the win reassures us, but we have to continue moving forward."
"We have the opportunity to play at home again against a great team coming off of a match in which they played really well. We know that it will be difficult but we're confident in our abilities."
Meanwhile, defender Ben Sweat and Mexican international Rodolfo Pizarro emphasized the importance of having achieved the milestone for the Club in the previous match, and have their sights set on keeping the momentum going as the season advances.
"We definitely have an opportunity now to get in a rhythm of consistent games. To start it off with a good win versus Orlando, I think that's what we needed and wanted, and what the fans and ownership needed and wanted. We were all anxious for that first win and now that it's out of the way we can focus on playing quality fútbol and take it one game at a time," stated Sweat.
"The vibes are good, everybody is in good spirits right now and I think the confidence is just going to continue to rise with good solid performances and good results. We just need to continue and carry that into Wednesday's match. One game is not good enough at the end of the day, so we still need to continue having that winning mentality going into this next match versus Atlanta. One match at a time, that's it."
"Truthfully, we're really happy, we needed a win to reflect all the good work we had done. I think [the win] gives us a lot of confidence. The challenge was getting that first win and now we just have to continue in this manner," added Pizarro.
Sweat also analyzed Atlanta United prior to the game and acknowledged that it's up to the team to figure out the best way to tackle the tough matchup and to impose its style of play on the pitch.
"They have very good attacking players and when we break down video, we'll study them even more carefully and we'll figure out the best gameplan to put an end to that, but also to show our dominance on our home field. They have really good young players in the midfield and up top, so they're going to be a tough team. They're going to want to have the ball, they're going to want to press high and they have the individual talent to make a difference. We just need to cope with that and shut those guys down and then play our game on top of it," concluded the American left-back.
