The San Jose Earthquakes' continuation of the regular season takes place this week with two rivalry matches. San Jose will host the MLS is Back Tournament champions Portland Timbers at Earthquakes Stadium on Wednesday, Aug. 26, before facing the LA Galaxy in the first California Clasico of the year at Dignity Health Sports Park on Saturday, Aug. 29.

Wednesday's match, presented by Fastmetrics, is set for 7:30 p.m. PT and will be broadcast live on NBC Sports California+, KNBR 1050 and 1370 KZSF. Saturday's match, presented by Sutter Health, is slated for 7:30 p.m. PT and can be seen on NBC Sports California, KNBR 1050 and 1370 KZSF. Coverage of Saturday's match begins after Oakland A's baseball and may start on NBC Sports California+ if there is a timing conflict.

Tournament Momentum

San Jose finished their participation in the MLS is Back Tournament with a 3-1-1 record in five matches, including an undefeated 2-0-1 Group-Stage record that counts towards regular-season play.

Current Standings

San Jose is now 2-1-2 and in seventh place in the Western Conference.

NEXT GAME VS. PORTLAND TIMBERS

Looking for Revenge

The Quakes currently hold a 5-11-7 record vs. the Portland Timbers in 23 MLS matches between the two sides. Portland defeated San Jose on Decision Day last year, eliminating San Jose from playoff contention.

Always Scoring

Forward Chris Wondolowski has scored 11 goals in 18 prior appearances against Portland, most by any player against the club in MLS history.

First Home Win

The Quakes will look for their first home win of the 2020 regular season. San Jose is currently 0-1-1 at Earthquakes Stadium in 2020.

NEXT GAME VS. LA GALAXY

Cali Clasico History

The Quakes currently hold a 24-31-15 record vs. LA Galaxy in 70 MLS matches between the two sides, including a 3-1-1 record in their last five meetings.

Beating LA

Saturday's match will be the first meeting between San Jose and the LA Galaxy in 2020. The Earthquakes won the two Cali Clasico matches last season, outscoring the Galaxy 6-1 in that span. In 2019, the Quakes first earned a 3-0 home victory on June 29 at Stanford Stadium, and defeated them 3-1 on the road on July 17.

Talento Hispano

This week's Cali Clasico will showcase key Hispanic figures like Mexico's Oswaldo Alanis, Carlos Fierro and Jonathan Dos Santos, as well as Argentina's Cristian Espinoza, Andy Rios, and Cristian Pavon. LA Galaxy and Mexico National Team forward Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez continues to recover from a calf injury and his participation on Saturday remains questionable.

MISCELLANEOUS NOTES

Earthquakes Transfer Magnus Eriksson to Djurgardens

The San Jose Earthquakes announced last Friday that the club transferred midfielder Magnus Eriksson to Sweden's Djurgardens IF for an undisclosed fee. Eriksson, 30, joined the Quakes ahead of the 2018 MLS season. He has since started 66 of the team's 73 regular season matches, making 69 total appearances. Eriksson tallied 13 goals and 14 assists in MLS play, while co-leading the club with three goals during the MLS is Back Tournament.

RENO 1868 FC UPDATE

Reno 1868 FC defeated San Diego Loyal SC 3-1 last Saturday, Aug. 22, which included a goal and assist from midfielder Tucker Bone and a club-record 29 total shots. Reno forward Foster Langsdorf scored his third goal of the season, and first as a starter. The win keeps Reno atop Group A with 18 points on the season and a +10 goal differential.

Goalkeeper Ben Beaury made six saves, tied for the fifth-most in club history for a single game. Beaury's hit the six-save mark twice on the season, leading the club with 20 saves on the year.

Reno will return home this Saturday, Aug. 29, hosting Phoenix Rising at Greater Nevada Field. Kickoff is set for 6:45 p.m. and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.

Earlier last week, Reno forward Corey Hertzog was named to the USL Championship Team of the Week after two goals in Reno's 5-2 win over Portland Timbers 2 on Aug. 15.

Hertzog's brace is his fourth with Reno, tied for the most multi-goal games in club history with Dane Kelly. The goals put his career total at 65, third-most in USL history. His 22 career goals with Reno are the second-most in club history, behind just Brian Brown's 28.
